Meditation Tips for Meditation Skeptics
Have you tried meditating? Meditation can be polarizing. People are either really into it—or really not. But that kind of either/or thinking might keep you from reaping meditation’s significant health benefits.
Check out the exciting news about meditation, along with tips for getting started (even if you’re a skeptic!)
Why Meditate?
Many medical experts and studies have shown that meditation has the potential to help you manage stress, anger, or grief; improve your mood; boost creativity and concentration; lower your resting heart rate and blood pressure; fall asleep faster and sleep better; and help you manage or reduce symptoms associated with a variety of mental and physical health conditions.
Too New Age? Make It Your Own!
Keep an open mind. Bring up meditation with your family and friends. You might be surprised at who else meditates! Afraid of looking silly? You don’t need to lie down or even sit to meditate. Eyes opened or closed? It’s up to you! Get bored or restless easy? Try meditation with movement (think yoga or tai chi). Love nature? Go outside!
Tie It to Another Daily Habit
Know how breakfast triggers you to get started on your daily routine? Or how you automatically refill your water bottle every time it reaches a certain level? Connecting meditation to another part of your day can help you remember to add it to your routine. Choose the time—and activity—that works best for you.
Note: Since everyone’s health history and nutritional needs are so different, please make sure that you talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to get advice about the diet and exercise plan that‘s right for you.
