TAKE15 Minutes for Self-Care
Is getting back to school or work after some time off stressful? You’re not alone. New responsibilities, deadlines, and projects can be exciting—but they can also boost our stress level. The good news? A little self-care can go a long way towards stress reduction.
And that self-care might start with taking short 15-minute breaks during the day to relax, rejuvenate, and reset. It’s not a cure-all but breaks can help you unwind and recharge. Here are a few tips and resources to help you hit the reset button—with breaks.
The Benefits of Breaks
Taking breaks is associated with health benefits like improving memory, giving brains time to process what we’ve learned and experienced, and serving as an energy boost that primes us to be more creative and productive. But that’s not all! Breaks can help you lower stress, improve blood pressure, sleep better, and more.
Mindful Breathing Break
Deep breathing is an important part of stress management. Try this: Close your eyes and concentrate on slow, deep inhales and exhales. Pay attention as the air goes in and out. Notice how your breath moves your body. If your mind wanders, bring it back to center. Do this a few times during the day and you’ll feel the benefits!
