Ideas to Help You Travel Well
What kind of a getaway are you planning this summer? Reading a page-turner on the beach? Hiking a national park? Exploring historical or cultural sites nearby? No matter how and where you travel, you can take your healthy lifestyle on the road with you. Here are some tips and resources to keep you on-track while you’re on-the-go.
Pack the Snacks
Whether you’re traveling by car, bus, train, or plane, remember to pack some healthy snacks! Try: Cut veggies, dried or fresh fruit, peanut butter with whole-wheat crackers, yogurt, nuts, or veggie chips.
Simon Says, “Move It!”
Long trips can be a bit boring, so Take15 and make a game out of moving and stretching. Take turns and call out different movements for your traveling companions, like: Lunge. Squat. Arm circles. Touch toes. Shake your hips. Shrug your shoulders. If Simon says to do it, make it so!
Find Your Sleep Zone
New time zones, different sleeping arrangements—and lots of excitement!—can make it tough to catch quality sleep while you’re traveling. A few days before your trip, start adjusting to the new time zone by heading to bed earlier or later. Unwinding before bedtime will also help.
Note: Since everyone’s health history and nutritional needs are so different, please make sure that you talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to get advice about the diet and exercise plan that‘s right for you.
