Ways to Stress Less
Stress is a part of life. And it doesn’t seem to be letting up!
While we can’t eliminate the long list of things that cause us stress, we can find ways to mitigate it. Sometimes little things that give us a sense of accomplishment can help to give us a sense of satisfaction and wellbeing and slightly reduce stress.
#1: Make Your Bed
Or unload the dishwasher. Or put away laundry. The point is to start each day by doing one simple chore. That way, you’ll have started your day accomplishing something! Small stress relievers add up.
#7: Focus on Fueling Foods
Experts recommend eating foods high in antioxidants (blueberries, tea, beans, tomatoes, kale); in Omega-3s (salmon and other fatty fish, nuts, soy products); and in certain vitamins (dark leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, garlic). Keeping our bodies healthy can help us better deal with what the world throws our way.
#9: Make Time for Meditation
It doesn’t take hours. You can meditate open-eyed at your desk or in line at the grocery store. Experts say meditating helps reduce stress by helping us focus on the moment. Try repeating a calming word or using as many senses as you can.
Note: Since everyone’s health history and nutritional needs are so different, please make sure that you talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to get advice about the diet and exercise plan that‘s right for you.
